CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Savita Gahlod, of Crompond, has had no power since Saturday night. The single mother says she has had to throw away a number of refrigerated food items, which is hard on a tight budget.
Gahlod picked up dry ice at the Morabito Community Center in Cortlandt Tuesday, four days after tropical storm Irene caused downed branches and electrical wires.
She said Con Edison was only giving one bag of ice to each person on Monday, which did not do much to save perishables. Every big storm that comes along, our street gets hit," she said. "As old as I am I dont like the dark.
