Matthew A. Perez, 23, of Cortlandt, told police that his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend had broken into his home on the night of Oct. 18, according to police.

Upon investigation, police discovered that the pair were at a family function at the time of the reported break-in and that Perez had fabricated the story in an attempt to retaliate for a previous incident, State Police said.

Perez was charged with making a punishable false written statement and falsely reporting an incident 3rd degree, both Class A misdemeanors. He is due to appear in Town of Cortlandt Justice Court on Oct. 28, according to State Police.
