About 30 members of CD17Indivisible gathered Sunday to do their bit to help the national “Ides of Trump” campaign reach its goal of sending 1 million postcards to the new president.
That will be a world record, far surpassing the 900,000 postcards received in one year by a baseball star in the past, according to one of the group's leaders, Marianna Stout.
The postcards, addressing topics ranging from health care and immigration to foreign policy, reproductive rights, and the environment, will be mailed to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, March 15.
Idus Martii, aka The Ides of March, corresponds with March 15 on the Roman calendar.
It was marked by religious observances and gained notoriety as the date Julius Caesar was stabbed to death by Roman senators near the Theatre of Pompey.
The postcard campaign gives folks a safe and positive way to voice concerns, offer advice and guidance and, well, just to vent, organizers say.
“This is yet another way that progressives in local communities all over our country are responding to the agenda of the new administration,” Stout said.
CD17Indivisible has been making itself heard in other ways.
Members of the group visited Chuck Schumer’s Peekskill offices back in January to sound the senior Democratic senator out on his Trump Cabinet nominee votes.
