The following letter was sent to administration and board members of the Croton-Harmon School District by resident Jennifer Kooney:

To the editor:

I wanted to share with all of you how thrilled I am that my son Colin had the opportunity to work with Linda Reich and Travis Moll this year. They are both fabulous teachers and I feel very fortunate that Colin has had the opportunity to learn from them and grow with their help this year.

Furthermore, I would like to commend Linda on her fabulous Intergenerational Program at Sky View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Her creative and unique program allows some of our third grade students the opportunity to work with seniors at the Center on a weekly basis.

The program teaches our children lessons in compassion, responsibility, and respect in an environment where those attributes are naturally reinforced. They experience tolerance and acceptance of physical differences on a weekly basis, making them more compassionate individuals. Not only is this program outstanding for our children to experience, but it is mutually beneficial for the patients and residents at Sky View.

The program can help to lessen loneliness, boredom and helplessness and provides a sense of purpose for the seniors that are involved. The weekly visits provide them with something to look forward to each week. This program is an extremely rich social and emotional learning experience for all involved.

Not only has Linda created this amazing program, but she also seeks funding sources outside of our school district so that the program does not impact our budget. I recently learned that she submitted a proposal for financing through DonorsChoose.org, a new and innovative way to fund enrichment programs for our students. Through private donations, Linda was able to obtain over $500 to support the program.

Linda Reich is a fabulous teacher, she has created an amazing Intergenerational Program for our students and she has funded it in an innovative way. She truly deserves to be recognized for her outstanding contributions to our school district.
