A GoFundMe campaign called “Help the Prin/Levine Family” set up following the Buckhorn Street fire Sunday afternoon raised $6,643 as of 10 a.m. Thursday toward a $10,000 goal of helping Maria Prin and her son, Alec Levine. A total of 119 donations have ranged from $5-$300 each.
The website says the family’s dog and possessions were lost in the fire, and that their cats were rescued, but injured. “This fund is to help them get back on their feet, and help cover the vet bills. Anything you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.”
Neighbors Scott Nelsen and Curt Chase have also arranged a "Dine to Donate" campaign at Frankie & Augie'Z Ristorante and Pizzeria in Jefferson Valley on Feb. 6, during which 20 percent of all the restaurant sales that day will be donated to the family. Bring or mention the flyer attached here for the discount.
Nelson has lived across from the family for 20 years. "You watch their house and see them go through this tragedy and it's sad. I've never watched a fire unless it was on TV, and it's very scary."
Nelson and Chase had previously put together a fundraiser following a fire that destroyed a home on nearby Wildwood Street with Frankie & Augie'Z and decided to try again.
"Frankie and Augie'Z do for the community all the time," Nelson said. "I think it's a great way to pay it forward to the family."
