According to a statement from police, Eastchester joins scores of local agencies taking part in the challenge. On Monday – a day after National Autism Awareness Day – all participating agencies gathered outside of the New Rochelle Police Department before heading over to William B. Ward Elementary School to meet with the students.

According to organizers, the challenge was started by a New Rochelle Police Department Detective seeking to raise awareness of the disorder within law enforcement for autism.

The patches have made their way into a number of agencies from across the country, according to organizers.
