Larchmont is where this local Habitat group built its first home. The organization also helped more than 200 families in the floods of 2006.

"On a beautiful fall day, these walkers also come out, and they build with us as well, during the year," said Habitat Executive Director James Killoran. "It also kicked off our veterans build-athon week, where we are building on vets homes in the county."

More than 15 high schools participated in the fundraiser, as well as retirees, parishioners and parents from all over. The event also recognized the affordable-housing crisis in the state, Killoran said.

Organizers wanted to extend their special thanks to St Augustine's Church and its mission committee, for sponsoring the event.
