Croton's Bagels on Hudson Ranks Among Finalists In DVlicious Bagel Contest

CROTON, N.Y. -- It’s impossible to live here and not have a bagel opinion. The New York area, as everyone knows, is the bagel capital of the world. And yes, it’s worth waiting in line on a Sunday morning to get one of these doughy wonders fresh out of the oven. Toasting, as a bagel purist knows, is not necessary when you buy the very best.

Bagels on Hudson's Owner Debbie Liaskos and her sister, Kim Peterson, who manages the eatery, hold a giant bagel sandwich that could easily serve 28 people.

Bagels on Hudson: 171 S. Riverside Ave., Croton-On-Hudson, (914) 271-5412

What Makes Them Bagelicious: The NYC-style boiled bagels are small, dense, chewy, and semi-sweet, not big and bready. Their salmon and whitefish comes from Mount Kisco Smokehouse, known for its handcrafted smoked goodies. And they don't skimp on the schmear -- fillings are slapped on to the point that they are falling out as you eat. Twenty varieties of bagels and a baker's dozen of cream cheese flavors. It's clear a lot of though -- and love -- goes into their products; the store is a family operation run by Owner Debbie Liaskos and her sister, Kim Peterson.

Crazy Flavors: Seasonal spreads include pineapple and fresh strawberries in the summer. As far as the bagels go, it's not so much crazy flavors, as crazy size. They offer a whopper of a party sandwich made with a giant bagel that could easily serve 28.

Reminder: The contest ends Monday, April 25 at 5 p.m. You can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.
