“We’re thrilled to bring The Wizard of Oz to life for the entire community to enjoy," said Ann Paul, Director at Westmoreland Sanctuary. "Where else can you see an outdoor performance of a classic while embracing all that nature offers, from the beautiful backdrop of our woods to unrehearsed appearances by special fly-by guests such as birds or butterflies!”
Cast members in the outdoor production hail from all over Westchester County.
“Unique to this magical performance will be its audience interaction," said Paul. "Audiences will take part in the adventure along the yellow brick road, interact with cast members and get to meet all of Oz’s favorite characters from Dorothy and Toto to the Tin Man,Scarecrow and Lion. It’s a special experience for the entire family to enjoy, and we anticipate a great turnout."
Ticket sales will support the sanctuary's environmental education and conservation programs.
Friday evening (July 22, 29) performances will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening (July 23, 30) performances will also begin at 6:30 p.m., but will be followed by a "Cabaret Campfire." An open pit to toast marshmallows will follow other remaining performances.
Sunday performances (July 24, 31) will start at 2 p.m.
Westmoreland Sanctuary is located at 260 Chestnut Ridge Road.
