Celebrate Hudson River Day At Croton Yacht Club

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The Croton Yacht Club is welcoming the public to a to its annual Hudson River Day celebration Saturday at the Croton Yacht Club at 6 Elliot Way from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The mission of the event is to spur interest in the history and ecology of the river, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote, enhance and protect river-related recreational resources.

There will be events and exhibits throughout the day for both kids and adults including a senining exhibition, viewing tanks and a presentation by Scott Craven on the Hudson River Lighthouse.

Ferry Sloops is offering free sailboat rides aboard its 22-foot sloop-rigged catboat the Whimbrel on a first-come, first-served basis. People  can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the tent, beginning at 10 a.m., for any of the scheduled sail times. There is a limit of four passengers per sail, kids must be at least 12, and those younger than 18 must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

The Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and the Yacht Club are sponsoring a youth fishing clinic and contest, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free fishing equipment and bait will be provided, and rod and reel combinations will be awarded as prizes. Kids wanting to fish at the club must be accompanied by an adult.

Food and beverages will be be available and local craft vendors and artists also will be on hand.
