Retired Police Sergeant Who Served For Decades In Westchester Dies A police department in Westchester has announced the death of one of its former members who spent his life serving his community and country.  Dutchess County resident Andrew Fischer, Sr., a retired Eastchester Police sergeant, died on Tuesday, April 9 at the age of 84, according to his obituary. Fischer, an Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War era, joined the department in 1964 and served until his retirement in 1987 after 23 years, according to Eastchester Police. A part of a busy main route in Westchester has reopened to traffic after being briefly closed thanks to a downed tree. Hillside Avenue (Route 100) in Greenburgh at the intersection with Valimar Boulevard reopened at around 4 p.m. after being closed for less than two hours after a tree fell on the roadway, Greenburgh Police said on Friday, April 12. The department said the road was reopened so fast thanks to "outstanding work" from the Town of Greenburgh Department of Public Works.
