"A weather setup such as this has produced storms with flooding in the past," according to AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams.

A system with showers and thunderstorms is expected to pass across the tristate area Thursday evening, the National Weather Service said in a statement posted at 1:04 p.m. Thursday. Some thunderstorms could produce gusty winds in excess of 50 miles per hour and hail as well as downpours that could result in ponding of water or poor drainage flooding.

Friday will be another hot day with sunny skies and a high in the upper 80s.

The storm chance returns Saturday afternoon after 2 p.m. during a partly sunny day with a high in the low 80s. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain.

There is a chance of showers Saturday night.

Showers are likely with a thunderstorm on Sunday during a mostly cloudy day with a high around 80 degrees.

There could be more storms Sunday night through Monday evening.
