The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory and wind advisory for northern Westchester, predicting between 2-5 inches of snow accumulation, and winds between 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 50mph.
"A combination of snow… gusty winds… and temperatures around freezing could make travel difficult at times… especially in higher elevations. This combination could also bring down trees and power lines," said the winter weather advisory issued by the weather service.
The prediction of downed trees and power lines is a variation on a nightmare for some 2,700 Con Edison customers still without power in Cortlandt, Croton and Buchanan. Ten days after Hurricane Sandy, about 22 percent of Con Edison customers in the town, including the two incorporated villages, still are without electricity.
By 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, at least 1 inch of snow had accumulated in the Town of Cortlandt, with snow falling steadily.
The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.
