Here Are Snowfall Totals From Quick-Moving Storm

Timing is everything and that was certainly the case with a quick-moving Alberta Clipper system that moved through the area overnight into the Thursday morning commute.

Though most of the area saw a coating to about an inch or so of accumulation, there were numerous motor-vehicle crashes beginning just before dawn when a jackknifed tractor-trailer led to the closure at the start of the span of the new Tappan Zee Bridge in Tarrytown.

A couple of hours later, a multi-vehicle pileup and severe icing caused the closure of a stretch of the northbound Taconic State Parkway near the Putnam/Dutchess border.

Orange County saw the most widespread accumulating snowfall of any county in the Hudson Valley, with about 2.5 inches reported in Monroe just before 8 a.m. 

Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Dutchess counties all saw on average between a coating and 1.5 inches of accumulation in most spots. The highest accumulation amount in those four counties reported was 2.5 inches in Harrison at 8:30 a.m.

Armonk reported 1.4 inches at the same time, Nyack 1.5 inches at 8 a.m., Somers 1.2 inches at 9 a.m., Carmel 1.3 inches at 8 a.m. and Poughkeepsie 1.5 inches at 8:30 a.m.
