Colette Dow is also Treasurer for the Pound Ridge Business Association. She has demonstrated a real understanding for budgeting and handling finances in a responsible way. Her business experience would be invaluable as a member of the Board of Education. An enthusiastic volunteer in the community at many levels, Colette has an intimate knowledge of the day to day needs of our children. She would be a tremendous asset and a much-needed representative of Pound Ridge to the Bedford Central Board of Education View Comment
I attended State Senator Greg Balls's presentation on his investigation/visit to Pennsylvania to observe the effects of their lack of regulation of the extensive fracking there. It was horrifying! The degree of destruction and consequences to the farms and residents was tragic. Residents in some areas are cautioned to have windows open when showering because of the gas in the water. And there are real links between fracking in the mid-West and earthquake activity where there had never been tremors. This is one reason California is looking at banning fracking. View Comment
Larry, thank you for sharing these very personal thoughts. Along with wishes for a speedy healing, I absolutely agree that we are very lucky to have the police department and Chief Dave Ryan on the watch. The subtle (and at the same time blatant) way these miscreants operate requires the vigilant and proactive responses we have from these reliable guardians of our safety. View Comment
We are so fortunate to have this bookstore in our community. There are no comparable experiences to snuggling up with a book and discovering the worlds within the covers. Any bibliophile knows the special connection with turning the pages and getting "into the book." Electronic books are great, but try putting your finger where you're reading and flipping to the front to check out a previous scene. It's just not the same. Thank you Susan! View Comment
Today no town is totally "safe" -- only the diligence and dedication of our law enforcement department gives us that peace of mind. THANK YOU!
Please remember to support our first responders when it comes to donating to the yearly fund raising drives. View Comment
Wolves are amazing creatures. Studies have shown that where they have been reintroduced into the wild, the entire ecological balance is improved. Predators have an important function in nature, with the notable exception of the most insatiable predator of all. Humans. View Comment
As a cancer survivor and the mother of a cancer survivor, I know how helpful it is to know that the emotional and physical rollercoaster you're on is also being experienced by others. Once upon a time, the "big C" was something whispered about. People who had it were treated as though it was contagious. The reason we've come a long way from that mindset is the ability of people like Lisa Adams to share and explore their experiences. Stand strong, Lisa! View Comment
When I get a call in the car, I pull over to answer the phone. If I am at home and someone calls me while they are driving. I tell them I'm hanging up and they should call me back when they are not driving. This is not rocket science! View Comment
Not only are Chubby's prices competitive, but they stand behind every item. The service is outstanding and they will patiently answer your questions and provide the information you need to make a sound purchase. Just as an aside, they carry the Big Green Egg Charcoal Grill. My husband LOVES it! The DiPietro family is an absolute mainstay in Scotts Corners. Thank you for a great article. View Comment
Niels and Alyce Wittus have served the community for many years, providing heating alternatives that are energy efficient, sustainable and state-of-the-art. Wittus-Fire by Design has always been a leader in their field. We are proud that they are part of the Pound Ridge Business Association and the Scotts Corners business community. View Comment
Willy is indeed a Pound Ridge treasure. Many years ago I was privileged to attend a presentation by him on the unique work he had done in identifying burial mounds of mass graves in Europe from aerial photos. His heritage is Polish and he was trying to identify sites of Nazi massacres. While first trying to locate the sites of massacres of Polish aristocracy (the Nazis were trying to wipe out anything of significance to Polish culture), his work later expanded to also locate such sites of Jewish massacres as Babi Yar. His work has been lauded by Yad VaShem Holocaust Memorial in Israel and the National Holocaust Museum in Washington. Willy is a complex and remakable talent and artist. Thank you for sharing this tribute to his artistry. View Comment
I fully agree that Pound Ridge Wines & Spirits is a wonderful addition to Scotts Corners. But it is disingenuous and mean spirited to use this opportunity to lob snide comments about the streetlights, which are to be covered by private donations (if you had bothered to really look for the facts.) The preposterously inflated figure of $2 million dollars is nonsensical and totally false!!! The business community has always tried to support improvements. The first such beautification project was spearheaded by Republican Town Supervisor Fred Zwick in the 1970s. The Pound Ridge Business Association undertook such projects as the Millennium Clock and the Fred Zwick Memorial Fountain. Members of the business community donated the park benches and joined with the Partnership and the Town to add 3 bicycle racks.
Don't piggyback on an excellent article about a great wine shop to score cheap political points. View Comment
