I have only been in Ossining for a short time, but one of the coolest places I have visited so far is the boat club. I am originally from a small fishing village in Alaska, so I have a soft spot for boats. I can also tell you not one restaurant on the water has worked in my little village in Alaska, and thats with thousands of boats and traffic right there. The only restaurants that survived were downtown. If a building floods the chances of survival are even lower. Parking is already busy all week long. There is already a restaurant on the water. There are miles of other buildings that flood to put in a restaurant that are unoccupied. Why doesn't the city help facilitate those waterfront condos and get some real revenue? or help make the commercial building code more reasonable. A business should not have to get an engineer stamp for a cloth awning or maybe that is village? Anyhow, there is your impact statement for free. View Comment
My wife made a really good point that a big waste of tax payer money is car accidents; ambulance, fire trucks, traffic jams, hospitals, loss of life. I would think preventing accidents and dishing out some healthy texting tickets + the $93 state surcharge added the ticket should pay for the text stops. View Comment
I think if this possibly great idea(we will see) saves one life, then it's worth it. More people are getting killed by distracted driving than drunk drivers now. My own life is in danger every time I commute to the city via The Sprain, 87 or the Saw Mill. I see texters swerving around every time I drive.
HBS, I would bet one of your relatives is also from another country, no? For me it was my great grandfather coming from the poverty stricken Norway. It was slightly easier back then. For my wife; her father came from Denmark, in fact my wife is Danish/Canadian. Oh no! Scandinavia on Hudson. I guess now we have racist, bee and chicken hating trolls on the message board. I thought this was important enough to get a password for. I think without a doubt we should pass laws to allow chickens and bees. Bees are already here in full force! Especially at my neighbors house. Chickens should be fine since they make very little noise and are actually much quieter than my neighbors dogs or the aircraft that fly overhead, or even the fire department for that matter. New York City allows chickens, so I think we should go for at least the "hens" so we can get some fertilizer and eggs! and for god's sake, even the white house has bees! View Comment
