The answer to your post "I wonder what the fine would have been if this had been a first offense by a young adult in our community. Would he/she been given a mere slap on the hand or made an example of ?" is YES. Was he charged with driving while under the influence? No. Did he get special treatment because he was a legislator, I don't think so. There are people in a Albany, such as Sheldon Silver, that have done things that are 100 times worse, and HE still has not only his job but still remains the speaker. So if you want to vent, how about going after the CORRUPTION in Albany. View Comment
This is really a great thing. Our country is so far behind the rest of the world when it comes to graduating engineers. I do hope it spurs on the growth of engineers. There should be NO reason that we have to "import" engineers. We have plenty of bright young people living in this country already.
There is a major problem with our education system. When we rank 18th overall and 27th in engineering , there has to be a change made. We also spend the most money on education, so it doesn't seem to be the problem, does it?
So I tip my hat to 10th annual Lower Hudson Valley Engineering EXPO for their inspiring work. I do hope it does spur some interest in engineering. View Comment
I like this one "If something doesn’t look right, they are encouraged to give us a call and we will check them out to the best of our ability.” . Really. Folks, the police can't be everywhere. You want to be safe, do something about it yourself. You and only you are the first line of defense. You are the "first responder" in this case. View Comment
The issuance of speeding tickets is for REVENUE only. I doubt that the stats prove that "speeding" actually creates more accidents than any other form of STUPIDLY". It has been proven that the change of speed limits along a road way causes them. The only thing that speed does, is it increase the severity of any resulting accident. It is basically a law of physics . So when they are saying giving out these speeding tickets are saving lives, don't believe it.
What we need is stricter driving tests. The old joke used to be "they are giving drivers licenses away at Sears". The way I have seen some people driving, I think that it might be true only Walmart is now the place to go. View Comment
@CtlndMnr:, Just what our town does not need is to be in the " store" business. You see what happens when government gets involved with operating a business. Prime examples, the US Postal Service and Amtrak. Can you name one "business" that the government has run that has actually operated in the black? I think not. View Comment
The term " medical Marijuana" is a hoax! Have you seen the abuse of the term in California? Got a hang nail, medical Marijuana. Got a headache, medical Marijuana. The abuses are rampant. The long term use of marijuana is not good for your overall health. Have any doubt about it, ask some of your friends that smoke it. View Comment
This is what you get when you take money from the Federal government. They now become your partners with a lot of clout. HB10589 is right, Rob Astorino should be thanked for standing up to these bullies!!! View Comment
Just what we need here in New York state, more taxes. New York State ranks 50th in a state to do business in. So now the tax payer is going to subsidize someones wages? Just what are these people smoking in Albany? It certainly isn't just plain cigarettes.
Bid deal, the budget is on time. That is probably the only thing they got right, isn't it? View Comment
If DOMA is struck down, what stops three people from being married? If two men wanted to marry one woman and they are in love, why can't they get "married" ? How about Polygamy, why shouldn't that be allowed? How about someone marrying their pet? There will be no end of this. Think of ANY combination and it could be possible if they are in "love'. It goes back to basic nature, if God wanted men to marry men and woman to marry woman he would have made some physical changes so men could give birth.
The term is asexual. So far as I know, humans haven't been able to do that from the beginning of their existence. There must be a reason for it.
This action is opening Pandora's box. Nothing good will come out of it. View Comment
Truth, as one of his "constituents" , I do know that he stands up for what I believe. He was charged with speeding and a small quantity of marijuana. He was not charged with driving while impaired as far as I know. If the people of Massachusetts could forgive Ted Kennedy for his killing of Mary Jo Kopechne, then we certainly can forgive Assemblyman Katz for his indiscretion. It now seems that all those "liberals" that think the possession of marijuana is not a serious offense are now making it a major issue. What has changed? Oh I know , it was a republican. Killing someone does not equal possessing a small quantity of marijuana, does it?
How about all the payoffs made by Sheldon Silver to cover up bad deeds by other democrats? Didn't hear anything from "truth" about that have you? View Comment
@Now lets be honest:, They change parties like they change underwear. You never know from one day to another what they tactfully believe in.You are right when you said that "Now “Party doesn’t matter in local elections"?" You used to see in the flyers the "party affiliation" , didn't you? Can you even remember the last time you saw that? Even with a score card it is hard to keep tract of them. View Comment
And if Governor Cuomo gets his way, even more people will move out of New York State. See : New York State Loses 2 Seats in House. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703581204576033951298355540.html . That should tell you something about New Yorks "growth" . View Comment
@ doodleowner:, I just love this " Putting more money in their pockets, puts more money into the local economy which adds to the income of local businesses and adds income to the county and State in sales taxes" Where did you get your MBA from, Cuba university? Do you understand that SOMEONE has to pay for this. Do you even understand that? It is the business owner that pays it and then passes it on to the consumer. If he doesn't want to raise his prices, he than gets rid of one or two employees. It is a lose lose situation. View Comment
If you think that jobs are hard to find now, just wait till the minimum wage goes into effect. There will be LESS jobs. Companies are cutting back now and will have even a better excuse to do so. On top of that next year the "affordable heath care act" goes into full effect. View Comment
