D'Alesio, who said he has been swimming since he could walk, is the captain of the boys varsity swim team, which begins its season soon. D'Alesio is also manager of the Yorktown girls varsity team, captain of the Club Fit USA team and a full-time summer life guard for the Yorktown Parks and Recreation Department.

"I'm really looking forward to the new season," D'Alesio said. "We have a lot of incoming swimmers."

D'Alesio said he was honored to be named captain. As captain, D'Alesio motivates and supports his teammates.

"To be named captain is a huge accomplishment," D'Alesio said. "I've been looking forward to it since freshman year."

The Yorktown swim squad is like one big happy family, D'Alesio said.

"It's an amazing spirit to be a part of it," D'Alesio said. "The energy flows between us. It means so much to have people cheering me on and to see all the people in the stands."

As manager of the girls varsity team, D'Alesio scores each meet, times their events and make sure they do enough laps.

"We help the coaches in any way they want, whether it be taking attendance or keep the girls organized," D'Alesio said. "I am proud to be a part of it, they are a great team."

D'Alesio said both the boys and girls teams root for each other and attend the other's meets.

"We never stop cheerleading," D'Alesio said.

When he's not swimming for Yorktown, D'Alesio is swimming for his Club Fit club team as part of USA Swimming.

"It's a group of close knit friends that support each other until the end," D'Alesio said

D'Alesio said he gets inspired watching the swimmers in the Olympics.

"They devote their lives to swimming," D'Alesio said. "When I see how motivated they are I want to be like them in anyway I can."

Swimming is one of the toughest sports, both mentally and physically, D'Alesio said.

"It really pushes my limits," D'Alesio said. "I can only swim as fast as I believe I can."
