The award, given out by Section One Girls Basketball Coaches Association, is selected by a committee of coaches and members, recognizes a team’s fine sportsmanship in the game of basketball.

Glassman was a former girls basketball coach and Section One Chairman for girls basketball. He coached the Yorktown Girls Varsity basketball team for two years and was very instrumental in bringing the Section One Girls’ Basketball Tournament to the Westchester County Center.

“This is a great honor for the girls basketball team, head coach Kevin Clark and the entire Yorktown community," said Yorktown Athletic Director Fio Nardone. "And it demonstrates how these young athletes develop their individual skills and also work well as a team. Bill was a great man and model coach. We are proud and honored that our team will be highlighted with this recognition.”

This year’s team was also coached by assistants Bob Clark and Melissa Golio.

In late January, the district was chosen as a New York State School District of Character for 2016 by the NY State School of Character program, sponsored through a partnership with the Academy for Character Education at the Sage Colleges in Troy.

The Yorktown team will be recognized on Sunday at halftime of the girls’ 2 p.m. AA final at Westchester County Center. Last year, Hendrick Hudson Schools’ girls basketball team won the award.
