Walter Panas High School Inducts Two Former Athletes Into Hall Of Fame

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- Walter Panas High School will induct two former student athletes at its Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Laurence Ekpergin (2006) and Fred Romer (2006), both basketball players, will be inducted at halftime of the team's football game versus Pelham High School. The game starts at 6 p.m. Ekpergin was All-Section his junior and senior year at Panas and league MVP his senior year. He was a two-time team captain of the Panas basketball team. He holds school records in points and rebounds in a season.

Ekpergin led Section One in scoring and rebounds in his senior year. He graduated from LeMoyne College where he was a four-year starter and two-year captain. He plays basketball professionally in France.  Romer helped lead the district track team to consecutive league championships in both winter and spring track in 2005 and 2006. He was All League and All County in both winter and spring track in 2005 and 2006.

In 2005, he anchored the Sprint Medley relay team that finished 8th in the national championship meet. At Panas he broke seven school records form 2004-2006.

At SUNY-Oneonta, Romer was all conference at 800 meters from 2007-2009 and qualified for the national championships. He was also a member of the All American 4x400 relay team in 2008 and member of the national champion 4 x 400 meter relay team in 2009.
