WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Tim McCauley slipped past a defender, then rose up and hit a 15-foot jump shot for the game-winning basket as Walter Panas High School tripped Tappan Zee 39-38 in a Section 1 Class A boys semifinal game at the Westchester County Center on Wednesday.
McCauley scored a game-high 15 points to lead second-seeded Panas into the Class A championship game at 5 p.m. on Saturday against the winner of the other semifinal between top-seeded Eastchester and No. 4 Harrison.
The teams were never separated by more than five points either way. Panas led 7-4 after a defensive first quarter on both ends of the floor and the teams were tied 17-17 and 26-26 after the second and third quarters.
Tappan Zee, led by Ryan McWilliams (10 points) and Luke McLaughlin (11), took a 32-27 lead with four minutes remaining in the game, McCauley scored seven of his points in the final three minutes, including the final basket, to complete the comeback win.
