CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – Walter Panas High School volleyball player Brigitte Burcescu is The Cortlandt Daily Voice Student-Athlete of the Month for November.

Burcescu led Panas to the Class A state semifinals this season but the Panthers ultimately fell short in that round to end their historic season.

The junior gave perhaps her best performance against Section 9 champion Cornwall in early November. Panas trailed, 2-1, and faced elimination from the playoffs. Burcescu led a rally with a match-high 29 kills and Panas advanced to the next round.

To top it all off, she accomplished this feat on her 16th birthday.

“Coach (Joe Felipe) told us that we had to fight because it was now or never,” Burcescu said after the win against Cornwall. “I think we were frustrated, as a team, but we came back and played with a lot of heart and played our game.”
