Shrub Oak Beats North Yonkers, Will Play in Final

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- Trevor McCarthy threw a touchdown pass to Kevin Prunty, then kicked the extra point, lifting the Shrub Oak Hornets Black team to a 14-12 overtime win over visiting North Yonkers Tuesday in a Westchester County Youth Football game at Lakeland High School.The teams will play in the championship game Sunday, 11 a.m., at Lakeland High School.The score was even at 6-6 after regulation. McCarthy and Prunty collaborated on a 45-yard touchdown on its’ first offensive play of the game.In overtime, North Yonkers had the ball first and scored, but its’ two-point conversion failed.Lakeland was facing fourth-and-goal from the seven-yard line when McCarthy bought time and connected with Prunty in the back of the end zone. With the pressure on, McCarthy calmly booted the extra point.Stephen Peters picked off a pass and Matthew Heinrich had a fumble recovery.The defense was led by the linebacking trio of Brian Farole, Dominic Dean and Prunty. Defensive linemen Armani Jurado and Keir Maley and cornerback Kevin Cortese contributed to the defensive performance.
