Rye Neck Is Lone Section 1 Team Playing For A State Football Title

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The last time Section 1 sent one or fewer teams to the New York state football championships in Syracuse was 1995, in just the event's third year, went no Section 1 teams advanced to the finals in the Carrier Dome.

The last time Rye Neck advanced to the state final was, well, never.

Rye Neck will be playing for its first-ever title in its first title-game appearance at noon on Sunday, Dec. 1 when it takes on traditional power Chenango Forks at the Dome.

Section 1 is comprised of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Rockland counties.

Here's the complete schedule for all five state class title games in Syracuse.

Friday, Nov. 29

Class A: Queensbury (Section 2) vs. Williamsville North (Section 6), 3:30 p.m.

Class D: Randolph (Section 6) vs. Chester (Section 9), noon

Sunday, Dec. 1

Class C: Rye Neck (Section 1) vs. Hoosick Falls (Section 2), noon

Class B: Schalmont (Section 2) vs. Maine-Endwell (Section 4), 3 p.m.

Class AA: Aquinas (Section 5) vs. Monroe-Woodbury (Section 9), 6 p.m.
