MONTROSE, N.Y. -- The Hendrick Hudson School District Athletic Department has won the prestigious Joseph Abraham Award.

This award is given annually by the New York State Athletic Trainer’s Association (NYSATA) to the high school that has provided outstanding athletic injury care to the student-athletes of their school. Meg Greiner, the athletic trainer at Hen Hud, has led the endeavor of treating injuries at the school for the past 13 years to the student-athletes.

“The Hendrick Hudson School District continues to show their understanding of the importance of having an Athletic Trainer for their student-athletes and it is wonderful that the NYSATA recognized that dedication this year," said Greiner. "Winning the Joseph Abraham Award is such a wonderful honor for the entire district. I am very proud to work with wonderful staff, student-athletes and parents.”

Joseph Abraham was a pioneer during his 40 years as an athletic trainer. He was one of the first professionals to recognize the need for quality athletic training programs at the high school level. During his career, Abraham served his profession as National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) district director, Eastern Athletic Trainer’s Association (EATA) secretary-treasurer for 17 years and played a strong role in NYSATA.

He served as an athletic trainer at both the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and at the Lake Placid Games in 1968. As a result of his outstanding career, he was inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame in 1970.

Hendrick Hudson will be honored at halftime of the boys lacrosse game on Saturday, May 10. The game begins at 7 p.m.  Steve Norman, a representative of NYSATA, and the athletic trainer at Rye Country Day, will present the award to Meg Greiner.
