Michael Nolan, a graduate of Saunders Trades and Technical High School in Yonkers, was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 18th round of the draft out of 40 rounds. Nolan is currently a left-handed starting pitcher for Oklahoma City University.
Rye Neck (Mamaroneck) grad Ryan Pennell was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 22nd round. Pennell, also a left-handed pitcher, currently attends Elon University.
Possibly the most famous name to be taken in the draft was Mariano Rivera, Jr., the son of legendary Yankees closer and Purchase resident, Mariano Rivera. Rivera, Jr., a sophomore at Iona College, was selected by the Yankees in the 29th round.
David Pepe, a Pace University (Pleasantville) junior second baseman, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 31st round.
Hendrick Hudson (Montrose) graduate TJ Olesczuk was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 40th and final round of the draft. Olesczuk is an outfielder at Winthrop University.
