MONTROSE, N.Y. -- Hendrick Hudson High School senior Justin Fischer has been named the latest Con Edison Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Fischer is on coach Brad Fredman’s varsity tennis team. Currently, he owns a 7-0 record as a member of the No. 1 doubles team.
Fischer is the 100th recipient of the award in the history of Hendrick Hudson.
He has been a member of the varsity tennis team since he was in seventh grade. He has attained all-league and all-section status during his time.
He has also been a three-year member of the Hen Hud varsity football team where he has also earned all-league and all-section status as a middle linebacker and fullback for coach Mike Lynch’s team.
Unfortunately, this past season, Fischer tore his ACL in the final scrimmage prior to games and was unable to participate the remainder of the season. During the winter season, he can be found participating on the varsity winter track team.
Academically, Fischer is also very successful. He holds a 92 percent average, and in the fall will be heading off to Lafayette University. At Lafayette, Fischer hopes to continue both his football and tennis careers.
“Winning the Con Ed Award is a very prestigious honor and Justin Fischer represents the very good here at Hen Hud," said Hen Hud Athletic Director Tom Baker, who has had 30 Con Ed Student-Athlete recipients during his tenure. "He is very deserving of this honor. For him to tear his ACL in September and then come all the way back and win this Con Ed Award exemplifies the type of character and perseverance Justin Fischer has. We are all very proud of him.”
