Clarry Serves Up Croton Volleyball Victory

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. — Meghan Clarry stepped to the service line in the third game of Croton’s volleyball match against host Horace Greeley on Wednesday and made it a lengthy stay.

Clarry ran off 10 consecutive points, sending Croton to the sweep of Greeley, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16, in a Section 1 volleyball match.

The victory came against a life-long friend of the program, Horace Greeley first-year coach Lisa Rudner. Rudner grew up in the Croton gymnasium during volleyball season with coach Robin Cooke and Croton junior varsity coach — her mother, Chris Rudner.

Clarry led Croton, now 5-4, with 14 service points, including four aces. The setter also registered 30 assists. Tess Judge paced Croton with 11 kills and 12 digs, Ashley Lattimer added nine kills and numerous ace dinks and Toni Vernon added eight kills.

“When I am serving I just get so fired up,” Clarry said. “I want to get as many points as I can.”

Clarry was taking mental notes on every serve and used it to her advantage.

“I was watching the passes they were making so when I served it, I was trying to serve it as hard as I could,” Clarry said.

Lattimer was a force at the net, registering kills and executing dinks to open spots, which surprised Greeley.

Croton had its finest execution when it came to communication. The Tigers had few mistakes when it came to calling the ball. As a result, Croton’s offense repeatedly sent the ball to Clarry, who set up Lattimer or Judge or Vernon.

“Everyone was getting underneath the ball,” Clarry said. “And everyone was communicating. Our communication was so much stronger this match.”

Rudner credited her team with playing a fine match despite the sweep.

“We are a very young team, but I felt the girls played better today,” Rudner said.

Julie Hurewitz led Greeley with four blocks, Samantha Srinivasan and Juliana Posen each had three kills and setter Rachel Vasquez finished with 12 assists.
