Yorktown Schools Celebrate Banner Year For Student Scientists

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A record number of Yorktown students have participated in a prestigious science fair this year, school officials said.

Yorktown's science whiz kids are Emily Huang, Amba Viswanathan, Kevin Carroll, Gowri Viswanathan, Cayla Hamann, Anisha Duvvi, Meera Kumanan, Michaela Kyer, Samantha Caddauan, Sabrina Sinagra, Kathleen Granitto, Samantha Horowi, and Nadia Aniff.

More than 30 students from the Yorktown High School’s Science Research Program presented their projects and findings at the recent Westchester Science & Engineering Fair.

The fair brings together more than 500 students from dozens of high schools in the region.

Science and STEM programs have gotten so good, school officials said, that the students are “recognized throughout the state and nationally as some of the most talented and impressive, even on an international level.”

But they couldn’t have done it without the complete support of the school’s administration, parents and local professionals, the officials said.

The students’ efforts have won them the chance to present their “graduate level” research in state, national and international venues, said teacher Michael Blueglass, who runs the program with colleagues Rachel Koenigstein and Dominic Guazzo.

The students will be presenting at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, the International Sustainable World Project Olympiad, and the GENIUS Olympiad.
