Yorktown School District Reduces Tax Levy On Upcoming Budget

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The Yorktown Central School District Board of Education announced Monday night that it will reduce the tax levy increase to zero percent for the 2016-2017 school year budget.

The previous estimated tax rate increase of 0.26 percent was lowered because of additional state aid receipts and a recent positive evaluation of the school district's financial position.

"With the passage of the final legislative budget in Albany, which increased our state aid, the Board of Education decided it was able to forgo any tax rate increase next year,” said Dr. Ralph Napolitano, Superintendent of Schools. “Additionally, given the recent credit rating upgrade by Standard and Poor's to AA+ from AA, which specifically cited our strong financial reserve position, the board members decided that a zero percent increase was attainable.”

The budget literature was prepared and printed prior to the Board’s discussion and decision on Monday night.

"We are thrilled to be in a position to do this for the community while continuing to offer an excellent educational program," Jackie Carbone, President of the Board of Education said. This is the culmination of a great deal of hard work and careful planning. We hope to use this strong financial base to continue to benefit our students, staff and taxpayers into the future.”

The district’s proposed budget is $98,010,000 for 2016-2017. Budget information and a videotape of the board meeting is available at this link.

The Yorktown School Budget vote will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 at the Mohansic Elementary School, 704 Locksley Rd. For more information, contact Barbara Nackman, Media Manager, YCSD at bnackman@yorktown.org
