The Yorktown High School Dance Company is hosting its annual "An Evening of Dance" at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Yorktown High School Auditorium.
The company features 60 dancers from the high school who have been working on the show since December. The program features 25 different dances including jazz, modern, tap, African, Bollywood, lyrical, East Coast and West Coast swing, hustle, Latin hip hop, ballet and pointe. All of the dances are choreographed by the students.
"The skill level is higher than it has ever been," Jessica Mackenzie, one of the faculty advisors, along with Christie Orlando, said. "These students have been working very hard."
Lily D'Orio, student president of the Yorktown Dance Company, has been dancing in the show for four years.
"The show is amazing," D'Orio said. "It's the best show we've had s far. It's very high energy and everyone is so talented."
D'Orio said the rehearsal schedule has been crazy but has enjoyed working with her fellow dancers.
"We've become a family," D'Orio said.
Aside from the annual evening of dance, the Yorktown Dance Company also performs for senior citizens and at pep rallies, holiday dancing grams and the annual awards dinner.
Tickets are $15 each and can be ordered online at www.yorktown.org or purchased at the door.
