This is the first time the research-based S4 student workshop series has been offered in Chappaqua. The workshops foster academic achievement by teaching students key study strategies that help them learn while reducing stress.

The workshops are open to all area students who are enrolled in grades 6-8 for the middle school workshop, and 9-12 for the high school workshop.

Classes will be held on three Sundays, Oct. 20, Oct. 27, and Nov. 3. The high school workshop runs from noon to 2:30 p.m., and the middle school workshop runs from 3:-5:30 p.m., both at Chappaqua Learning Center, 400 King St. in Chappaqua.

These dynamic workshops are taught by accredited teachers and class size is limited to 11 students. S

The S4 program is founded on educational research and evidence-based studies. Its interactive approach demonstrates clearly how to apply students’ own curriculum to the study strategies they learn.

The S4 program provides students with the skills and strategies needed for academic confidence, motivation and preparation, particularly as they move up to the next grade level, where academic workload increases, independent work is encouraged, and expectations rise. Benefits of learning study skills include:

  • Better classroom engagement
  • Increased focus
  • Reduced anxiety and stress
  • Improved retention of new material
  • Better preparation for class, tests and projects
  • Increased ability to synthesize information
  • Enhanced critical-thinking skills
  • Increased confidence
  • An independent approach to learning

S4 supplies all materials for the workshops. Each day, students will return home with materials that complement and reinforce the day’s lessons. Parents are provided with post-session emails that explain what was taught in the day’s lesson, and provide information for how to support students in practicing the new skills.

The 7.5-hour, three-session workshop costs $395. For more information, contact S4 at 203-307-5455, or e-mail info@S4StudySkills.com . People may also contact the Chappaqua Learning Center at (914) 238-0800. Register for the middle school program online. Registration for the high school program is also online.
