Griest is a veteran re-enactor and a retired teacher. The presentation expanded the students' knowledge of the elements of biographies, which is part of the second-grade ELA/SS curriculum. Griest's portrayal of the 16th president of the United States focused on characteristics of people who demonstrate courage and determination to improve themselves and their surroundings. The students and teachers were amazed at this physical appearance and realistic dialogue.
