Lakeland Student Scientists Present Research At Science Research Symposium

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- Ten senior research student scientists from Walter Panas and Lakeland high schools recently presented their research at the annual Science Research Symposium in the Lakeland High School auditorium.

The students presented summaries of their completed research papers to parents, community members, administrators, and staff. 

Dr. Alwyn T. Cohall, professor of sociomedical sciences, population, and family health and pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center, opened the evening as the keynote presenter. 

Following the opening presentations, science research students presented their individual research projects through posters in the library and adjoining areas. 

"Our Science Research Program allows our students to explore cutting-edge topics in science and work with mentors in the field,” said Patricia Viggiano, director of Science (K-12). They learn how to research, write, and present their work in this elective class. We are very proud of the achievements of our students in the program."
