Lakeland High School Screens Documentary On Effects Of Heroin Addiction

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- "Chasing It," a documentary on heroin addiction, will be presented at Lakeland High School on Wednesday, April 29 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the school library.

Following the presentation, experts from a variety of community organizations including the Cortlandt Community Coalition and the Alliance for Safe Kids will be available to provide information about drug and alcohol abuse and treatment.

New York State Senator Terence Murphy will be on hand to discuss the issue of heroin abuse and the work of his committee. Senator Murphy is co-chair of the Joint NY State Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction.

The documentary film, "Chasing It" is the story of those affected and why heroin use has such a devastating reach. In the video, Dr. Marc Fishman, an addiction expert, shares his knowledge, Doug Greenwich shares his pain and six addicts in recovery share their stories.

The video was produced by the Peers Influence Peers organization and has been presented at school districts throughout the Westchester/Putnam area. The presentation is funded by a grant from the New York State Senate.
