The Lakeland School District had its first day of classes on Tuesday, Sept. 2 with students saying they were happy to be back.
"I'm excited," Jadeen Mercado, who went to Mexico over the summer, said.
Mercado said she was looking forward to health and psychology, two electives she signed up for.
Molly Fitzpatrick said it was bittersweet entering her senior year.
"It's my last first day at the high school," Fitzpatrick said. "These years have flown by. I remember being here as a freshman."
Fitzpatrick said she loves going to football games and seeing Lakeland coming together as a family.
As a freshman, Regan Fallo was taking it all in on his first day of high school.
"It's different," Fallo said. "We have a lot more freedom. We're allowed to have cell phones in the halls."
Fallo, a three-sport athlete who runs cross country and plays basketball and lacrosse, said he was excited for gym.
Tim Fallo, a sophomore and Regan's older brother, said his freshman year was great. He said he looked forward to showing his younger brother around.
"It was great to meet new people and see the new sports that were offered," Tim Fallo said.
Fallow said he was looking forward to his class about wars that changed the world.
"I really like history," Fallo said. "I hope I can make new friends this year.
Cullen Malzo said he was nervous about beginning his senior year.
"It's nice to see everyone," Malzo said. "I'm ready to move on with my life. I have no idea where the time went."
Malzo said he hasn't decided on a school, but he wants to study engineering. He had advice for the freshman class.
"Don't goof off and don't procrastinate," Malzo said.
Principal Lorrie Yurish said it had been a good first day.
"The students are happy," Yurish said. "They miss seeing their friends everyday.
Yurish said she told the freshmen how special the Lakeland community was.
"We take great pride in being a school and a family," Yurish said. "We support each other."
