Lakeland Celebrates Class Of 2016

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The graduation caps flew at recent commencement exercises at Lakeland High School in Yorktown.

The 271 members of the Class of 2016 gleefully tossed their headgear high into the air upon being pronounced “alumni” last Saturday.

Student speakers included the Valedictorian Margaret Callery and Salutatorian Dylan Black.

Anthony Rigaglia delivered the student address and economics teacher Michael Schaper, the faculty address.

Katie Balen sang the National Anthem was she was accompanied by pianist Lucy Zorzano.

Matthew Murnane read an original poem.

School officials congratulating the newly minted grads were: principal Christopher Cummings, superintendent of schools Dr. George Stone, and Board of Education president Carol Ann Dobson.

Lakeland senior vocalists sang "I Lived," a “carpe diem” song recorded by the pop rock band OneRepublic.

Bagpipe player Thomas McCarthy lead the opening procession.

The Lakeland High band, under the direction of music teacher Robert Schwartz, performed the traditional graduation march "Pomp and Circumstance" as the graduates entered.
