Mah received her $1,000 scholarship during the organization’s annual scholarship breakfast, held June 4, in Cortlandt Manor.
“The business community recognizes that by supporting these scholarships for the students of today, we are strengthening our future,” Deb Milone, Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce executive director, said at the event, according to a press release.
“Maybe today I was standing next to the student who finds a cure for cancer or becomes President of the United States.”
Mah is a member of four honor societies, and served as president of Putnam Valley High’s chapter of the National Honor Society.
She has also served as captain of the varsity lacrosse and swimming teams.
Mah’s other activities include community service for Putnam Valley High’s Interact Club and Putnam Valley Girls Youth Lacrosse.
She plans to double major in chemistry and government, also playing women’s lacrosse, at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
“I’m very grateful to the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce,” Mah said in the press release. “I’m very lucky; it will help me to finance my schooling,”
Five other students from the Hudson Valley region also received $1,000 scholarships at the event.
- Caroline Barnes, Croton Harmon High School;
- Jazz Munitz, Hendrick Hudson High School;
