Colleen Ruiz of Blue Mountain Middle School and Mary Fanning and Nupur Pal of Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School participated in the "Rethinking Academic Coaches" panel and shared information on how "technology coaches" currently work within school districts.

The district's academic coaching program launched last year to coach district educators on how to best use instructional technology at the school level. Every school building in the district has at least one coach to support teachers.

“We knew we wanted to use classroom teachers to work with their peers in this manner, as research has shown that school-based professional learning is the most effective method,” said Mathew Swerdloff, executive director of the school district's Educational Support Services. “We also wanted to leverage our investment in technology that took place as a result of the capital project, and ensure that our teachers are utilizing the hardware and software to the fullest extent possible.”

The conference took place at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown from Oct. 23.
