Croton's Plotkin Named Assistant Principal Of The Year

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The assistant principal at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School has been named 2015 New York State Assistant Principal of the Year.

Michael Plotkin, who has been an assistant principal at the Croton-on-Hudson school since 2007, was selected for the honor by representatives of the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the School Administrators Association of New York State, according to a press release.

“Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School is truly a different place today because of the tireless and ongoing work of Michael Plotkin,” school Principal Barbara Ulm said in a press release.

Plotkin has worked in education since 1993. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the City University of New York at Brooklyn College, along with an advanced school leadership certification from the Teachers College of Columbia University.

While at Van Cortlandt Middle School, Plotkin wrote a curriculum for and implemented a bullying prevention program.

“Michael represents the best in our profession,” Croton-Harmon School District Superintendent Edward R. Fuhrman Jr. said in a press release.  

“He is a true educational leader who always keeps what’s best for children at the center of his work.”

Plotkin accepted his award Friday, May 8, in Albany. He will also be honored at an upcoming ceremony in Washington, D.C.
