The Croton-on-Hudson students performed at the 25th anniversary celebration for the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was Nov. 20.
They sang “Let It Shine” and “Together We Can Change the World.”
“A former CET resident artist, Therese Folkes-Plair, was responsible for getting this incredible invitation,” said music teacher Marlena Peters in a press release.
Folkes-Plair is co-chairwoman of the UN’s Committee on Children’s Rights.
“The children sat through the hour and a half briefing in which remarks were made by various groups and individuals advocating for children's rights,” said school principal Kelly Maloney in a press release.
“The message that was communicated by those who spoke was that children have rights, no matter who they are, where they live, what their culture is, or whether they are rich or poor, and that children’s voices must be heard.”
