CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Fourth-grade students at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School in Croton-on-Hudson used fine motor skills and concentration to create necklaces, design their own masks and try their hand at challenging games as part of the annual Native American Day.
The special day each year allows students to become immersed in the culture they are studying through hands-on learning opportunities.
Students were able to handle objects Native Americans used to clothe, feed and entertain themselves.
All of the objects were handmade, and many serve multiple functions, students learned.
