Emma Cheshire’s piece, “Hand Shadow,” captured first place out of 21 entries.
“I congratulate Emma on winning this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” U.S. Rep Nita Lowey (D-Westchester/Rockland) said in a press release. “New York’s 17th Congressional District will be well represented in Washington, D.C. by her outstanding artwork on display in the United States Capitol, where millions of visitors will be able to see it.”
Cheshire was honored at an awards ceremony April 27 in Nanuet.
“The Croton-Harmon School District and Croton Community couldn’t be more proud and excited for Emma,” Jodi Burger, an art teacher at Croton-Harmon High, said in a press release. “Her portrait is a wonderful representation of her amazing technical ability, creative spirit and dedication to her art.”
Cheshire will be honored in Washington D.C. in June, along with second-place winner Heeyeon Kim of Harrison High School, third-place winner Alice Luo and Barbara Letizia of Clarkstown High School South who earned an honorable mention.
“Our region is fortunate to be home to so many excellent young artists,” Lowey said. “Their artistic talents are excellent contributions to the Lower Hudson Valley’s cultural identity.”
