CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – A Croton-On-Hudson Police detective recently visited first-grade students at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School.

Detective Paul Camilleri visited each class, discussing information such as how to stay safe, identifying police officers by their uniforms, and how and when to call 911 for help.

“I am part of the community,” Camilleri said to the students, according to a press release. “One of the many things we do is help people and keep people safe.”

The detective showed students his handcuffs and police vehicle. Every first-grader had an opportunity to hear their voice on the vehicle’s loudspeaker, and each student took home an activity book about the role of police officers, crayons, a police badge, and a calendar.

“It is important to wear a helmet whenever you get on a bicycle,” Camilleri told the students.

“And say no to strangers.”
