CORTLANDT, N.Y. – Students at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School kicked off the year's motto of “I Am” with a school assembly Sept. 4.
The motto was chosen to help students consider who they are and who they wish to be in the future.
“The purpose of this assembly is not only to get pumped for the school year, but to get pumped for each other,” said Assistant Principal Michael Plotkin to the crowd.
During the assembly, eighth-graders spoke to the crowd, and students and staff were introduced to and applauded by the audience by grade.
Students then gathered in their advisory classes to discuss the motto and talk about potential team-building activities throughout the year.
