Buchanan-Verplanck School Option Meeting Wednesday

MONTROSE, N.Y. – Parents of Hendrick Hudson School District students who have questions regarding the what effects the public school choice option at Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School will have on the district are invited to attend a meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Frank G. Lindsey cafeteria.

Daniel McCann, superintendent, Dr. Alice Gottlieb, assistant superintendent, and Kathleen Coughlin, director of pupil personal services, will join parents to explain the situation and to try to answer questions.

The public school choice option is a classification given by the state as a result of the Buchanan-Verplanck school having underachieving students in the special needs category for two years in a row, something the district said it is working to address.

Topics that will be covered include New York State regulations for schools designated “in need of improvement,” the public school choice legal requirements and process, class sizes in all three schools, guidelines for assigning transferring Buchanan-Verplanck students to other schools and plans to increase achievement for all of students.
