Buchanan-Verplanck Grads On Way To Middle School

BUCHANAN, N.Y. – Fifth-graders of Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School celebrated on Wednesday their final moments as elementary school students.

“Today’s graduation was an important day where we celebrated a class of outstanding individuals who have accomplished so much during their time at B-V," said Principal Josh Cohen.  It was also Cohen's first fifth-grade moving up ceremony and he will enter his second year as principal in the 2013-2014 school year.

Students in their best summer clothes attended a ceremony packed with family and friends present to witness their accomplishment. They received advice from Alice Gottlieb, a long-time middle school principal, and Blue Mountain Middle School's two current administrators, Principal John Owens and Vice Principal Margaret Podesta.

Cohen asked, as he does every day during morning announcements, how the students would make decisions to affect their destiny.

"These are choices that you will have to make and we hope that you will remember all that you have learned at B-V. There about options you have in every situation. You have tremendous control over your success, attitude and overall well-being. Make it a great day, each day and remember the choice is yours," he said.
