The annual Career Day serves as an intensive, exciting way for students to learn about the many career opportunities that exist in the community and beyond.
Faculty members Donna Miller and Logan Krause spearheaded the day, with the help of a number of volunteers and the speakers. Each year’s building-wide event takes months of preparation, but the results are always spectacular. There were classroom presentations, indoor and outdoor interactive events and lots of discussion.
PTA leader and Hen Hud parent Lauren Attinelly was a presenter on the topic of Human Resources and Career Planning.
“I have participated in the BMMS Career Day for four years," she said. "I just have to say that each year it gets better and more robust. As a presenter, it gives parents like me great appreciation for being in the classroom and what our staff goes through daily to engage and connect with our students (boy…was I exhausted after 6 mods). It also gives us a window into seeing the great minds and character of our students. In discussions over the weekend, I learned that there were many parents who had discussions with their children after that day. How nice to hear that students enjoyed it so much that they actually discussed at home and referenced specifics.”
A massive fire engine and a helicopter were on site for students to learn about career opportunities.
Among the topics covered were fun things scientists do at work; social work; aviation; music business; TV news; dog training; civil air patrol; real estate; podiatry; exercise and nutrition; motion pictures; law enforcement; journalism; graphic design; sports radio broadcasting; veterinary medicine; physical therapy; finance and more. Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter also discussed with several groups his work as a school district administrator.
