"We are completely heartbroken," said Jennifer Colon, a family friend, following Jose DeJesus's Thankgiving Day death. "We lost our angel."

DeJesus was riding a bike home from work with another teen described by Colon as his best friend -- also from Clifton -- when they crashed into a car on Sixth Street near Lincoln Avenue around 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

DeJesus was rushed to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, where Colon said he remained on life support until Thursday while loved ones prayed for a miracle. Colon also set up a GoFundMe page that, as of Friday night, had collected more than $3,500.

No criminal charges were filed nor summonses issued, police said.

A candlelight vigil was scheduled at the high school Friday night.
