NORWALK, Conn. Alexander "Al" A. Renzuella, 95, of Norwalk, died Monday, March 26, at Norwalk Hospital.
Renzuella and his late wife, Eleanor, took over Swanky Franks restaurant on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk in 1953 and operated it for the next 30 years. After changing hands several times, the Original Swanky Franks has been run by Renzuella's family since 2003.
Born in Norwalk on March 1, 1917, he was the son of the late Antonio and Ursula Bifano Renzulli. A lifelong Norwalk resident, Renzuella was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He enlisted in 1943 and served in Italy with the 42nd Rainbow Division.
He enjoyed fishing and traveling to Mexico and Florida. Renzuella was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as life member and oldest member of the South Norwalk Boat Club.
Renzuella is survived by his daughter, Bunny (Eleanor) Satterfield; three grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Ruta Renzuella; his brothers, Patrick, Salvatore and Louis; and his sisters, Elizabeth Peluso, Anna Czel, Amelia Carrone, Jennie Bodnar and Marion Fratino.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilton. Entombment with military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery.
